We are thrilled that two of our Premier Men's youngsters have made their first class debuts over the last two weeks.
Congratulations to Ryan McCone (right) and Marty Kain.
Marty a left arm spinner made his debut at Pukakura Park in New Plymouth on March 21 taking two wickets against CD, while Ryan a left arm seamer who came into the playing XI a week later at the expense of Kain scored a memorable hundred coming in a number nine in his match at the QEII ground in Christchuch against the Otago Volts.

The threat of legal action regarding the finalists for the Premier Men One-Day Competition has been dismissed by the club after the only option was an appeal to the High Court for an injunction. You can read the Press report here
Here is a copy of the original article by Hamish Bidwell from the Press...
A last-minute change in the method of deciding the round-robin men's premier club cricket semi-finalists has left defending champions Lancaster Park-Woolston considering legal action.
The Press, after consultation with Canterbury Cricket's assistant operations manager, Mike Fisher, wrote this last Monday about the outcome of the round-robin phase of men's premier club cricket: "In one of the tightest finishes in memory, East-Shirley, Old Boys-Collegians and St Albans were locked together on 28 points after wins in Saturday's final round-robin matches.
"Defending champions Lancaster Park-Woolston, Sydenham and Burnside-West University, after their victory in a catch-up game yesterday, were all just a win back on 23 points.
"The ties were broken on results of the matches among the tied teams and today Canterbury Cricket is expected to make the outcome official. It appears East-Shirley is the first-ranked team and it will host fourth-placed LPW in one of the semifinals at Burwood Park on February 15, while OBC earns the hosting rights against St Albans in the second v third encounter."
Instead, Canterbury Cricket did no such thing. Convinced that the accepted "who beat whom" criteria in pool play unfairly penalised BWU, chief executive Lee Germon wrote to club chairmen on Thursday, informing them that net run rate would now determine who qualified for the semis.
He floated three options for breaking the ties, but no sooner did he mention "who beat whom" than he dismissed it.
Net run-rate was scenario No2, with a ballot or lucky dip option three. That was never going to fly, so net run rate became the option.
Out went LPW, BWU took fourth spot, while St Albans went to top, East-Shirley dropped to second and OBC to third. Not surprisingly, LPW are not amused and may resort to legal action.
"It wouldn't be so bad if they had said, before the competition started, that `this is what's going to happen'," LPW coach Garry MacDonald said.
"But the way it's been conveyed to everyone is that `who beat whom' would decide the outcome if teams were tied. Now they've changed it. It's high-handed and it's confrontational and they've actually changed their own rules."
Things get murkier from here as it seems there are no written rules.
"Nothing is in the (Canterbury Cricket) handbook," Fisher said.
"It was discussed over the last two or three weeks, where we advised the teams verbally that it was to be decided on a who beat whom basis in the first instance. Where that couldn't be applied we would use net run-rate and the only ones who appear to be disappointed are Lancaster Park. Who beat whom was unfair because not everyone played each other."
The most pointed instance of that is the LPW-BWU match, which was called off because of rain. Both teams were awarded three competition points. To LPW that has to be copped on the chin, and abandoning "who beat whom" on that basis is unjust.
MacDonald said LPW would now consult with lawyers.

Park-Woolston upsets East-Shirley
The Press | Monday, 03 March 2008
Lancaster Park-Woolston effectively won its Christchurch premier
grade one-day cricket final twice against East-Shirley at Burwood
Park yesterday.
It was a rare title triumph for the talented and predominantly
youthful Park-Woolston side against its more experienced rival
which had been the top qualifier.
The impending wet weather provided an added edge after East-Shirley
mustered 151 for eight in challenging batting conditions having
been sent in.
Drama occurred before the game began, the pitch having to be shifted
to a nearby strip after vandals had punctured the covers with
pegs holding them down allowing rain to get in on Saturday.
Park-Woolston's first target in reply was 61 from 20 overs --
the total needed in a rain-shortened game to constitute a match.
The rain intensified with 19.4 overs bowled, just two balls short
of a proper match, but Ben McCord struck a six to lift Park-Woolston
to the magic number. Had the game not restarted, the title would
have been shared but East-Shirley would have been awarded the
trip to Auckland next season for the national club knockout by
being the top qualifier.
When the covers came off the visitors kept well ahead of the run
rate, carrying the side to victory in the 39th over -- Andrew
Duncan hoisting two sixes to celebrate.
East-Shirley's only option after the 20 overs were completed was
to bowl Park-Woolston out, but at 131 for six Ryan Burson could
not hold onto a return catch from Duncan and the opportunity was
lost.
Earlier Park-Woolston had bowled and fielded impressively with
sixth bowler James Winstanley proving ideal in the slow conditions
while left-arm spinner Marty Kain's 10 overs yielded just 13.
Michael Papps batted determinedly for 59 from 104 balls before
being seventh out.

(21
Jan 08)
Christchurch Press (21 Jan 08) by Geoff Longley
Talk about taking your chances with both hands...Adam
Van der Looy has hardly played any premier grade cricket but is
now the proud holder of a Canterbury club record for most dismissals
in an innings.
The 32 year old Lancaster Park Woolston wicketkeeper
has been only an occasional member of the club's top team with
two others, Simon Allen and Andrew Duncan having performed the
role this season. But with Duncan elevated to the captaincy in
the absence of Andrew Ellis, and Allen having returned home to
Wellington, Van der Looy received the call in recent weeks.
Against Riccarton in the second innings of the lastest
two-day round at Hagley No. 3 the edges would not stop flowing
from the Riccarton batsmen into Van der Looy's safe hands. Van
der Looy snaffled eight catches for the innings breaking the previous
record of seven held by Andrew Haglund (Marist) set a decade ago.
He also equalled the record for the most dismissals in a match
alongside Paul Rutledge (St Albans) with nine.
"I couldn't believe it, the ball just seemed
to keep following me," Van der Looy said. "Usually when
you are keeping you think about the ones you drop and how much
they have cost, but not this time." Van der Looy paid tribute
to his team's new-ball bowlers, Ryan McCone and Ben McCord, whose
quality swing bowling enabled him to set the mark with all the
catches coming from the pair's bowling as Riccarton was routed
for just 66 and Park Woolston cruised to seven wicket victory.
Club cricket has been played in Canterbury for 131
years and many thousands of matches have been played since the
start in 1876. Coach Garry MacDonald said the record could not
have gone to a better guy. "He's just such a great club man.
He doesn't mind which grade he plays and is always happy to help
out where he can. I'm just thrilled for him."
Van der Looy had given the game away after leaving
Burnside High School and travelled overseas. But on returning
to Christchuch in his mid-20s he took to wicket-keeping again
for LPWCC, but made only infrequent senior appearances in recent
years.
A few more look in store now after his record-breaking
efforts. |

A
huge congratulations to our women's side who won their One-Day
final on Saturday. In sweltering 35 degree heat, our bowlers were
put to the sword by East Shirley who made 261/8.
But in a most impressive
batting display we knocked the total off for the loss of just
one wicket, with Black Fern Haidee Tiffen leading the way with
an authoratitive 120*, she was ably supported in a 221 run partnership
by Zara McWilliams who finished with a classy 85*.
A fantastic result,
and well done to all involved. |

Premier Men:(Two Day
Fixture)
Burnside West v LPWCC
Burnside-West University captured first-innings
points at Garrick Park. But batting on for several overs after passing
the home team's score to lead by 47 runs left little scope for an
outright. Keryn Ambler used the time productively to post his first
senior century after scoring a half century in the first innings.
His 128 not out came from 167 balls in 211 minutes and included
16 fours and a six.
Only four wickets
fell in the whole second day, which included a 30-minute earlier
start to make up for bad light on Saturday.
On the first day, off-spinner Tom Batty worked his
way through the Park-Woolston middle and lower order for a five-wicket
haul.
The game was eventually called off at 5pm with 15
overs unbowled.

Report from the 'Press'...
Premier Men:(One Day
Fixture)
St Albans v LPWCC
The tightest contest was between Lancaster Park-Woolston
which beat St Albans by three runs at Hagley No. 1 in a match
reduced to 35 overs.
The visitors mustered 134 but could not bat its
full quota of overs faling two short on a slow outfield which
made boundary hitting difficult.
The brightest batting came from Andrew Duncan who
top scored with 24 from only 19 balls and hit three of his team's
six fours.
Spinner Neil Cross took out the middle of the combined
side's batting.
St Albans got itself into a challenging positions
thanks to a 48-run fifth wicket stand between Michael Davidson
and James O'Gorman and eventually needed 18 from the final two
overs. But Ryan McCone and Ben McCord closed out the innings conceding
only 14 between them from the final two overs.
The Park-Woolston bowlers were also more on
target in the final analysis than their St Albans counterparts
conceding only a handful of extras while St Albans delivered 14
wides and three no balls.
LPWCC 134 (33 Overs) beat St Albans 131/9

Report from the 'Press'...
Premier Men: (Day
2)
Sydenham v LPWCC
Sydenham's batting has been dismal this season but
it showed some resolve, batting most of the day to keep Lancaster
Park-Woolston at bay at Sydenham Park.
When Sydenham was finally dismissed just after 5pm
the visitor was left 142 to win in just 14 overs an almost unachieveable
target. But the combined side attacked with such gusto, as openers
Keryn Ambler and Simon Allen rollicked along at eight an over,
putting on 64 for the first wicket, that it became a possibility.
Then wickets began to tumble and and the momentum
could not be maintained with Park-Woolston 29 runs shy at stumps.
Earlier lively left-arm pace bowler Ryan McCone
completed an outstanding 11-wicket double for the match backing
his six-wicket haul in the first innings with five in the second.
McCone, a late starter on the day with an examination,
soon made an impact. But Ben Orton, Grant Bell and captain Craig
Ross proved a demanding middle order to dislodge and soaked up
enough time despite the final wickets falling with a flurry.
Sydenham 108 and 207 (R McCone 5-35) drew
with Lancaster Park-Woolston 174-7 dec. and 113-6 (S Allen 41).
Premier Women:
LPWCC v St Albans
Previously unbeaten Lancaster
Park-Woolston sustained its first loss of the women's premier
grade club championship by three wickets to Old Boys Collegians-Country.
Park-Woolston, which was sent in, was missing its
in-form batsman, Haidee Tiffen.
The side struggled to form any partnerships of significance
and paid the penalty of hitting the ball in the air to fielders
with eight dismissals.
LPW was bowled out in the 38th over for 83 runs
with only Frances MacKay making much headway.
LPW 83 (Frances MacKay 31; Erin Bermingham
2/8 Sophie Devine 2/13) lost to OBCC 84/7 (Kathryn Clark 27; Emma
Campbell 3/3, Tabatha Waterreus 2/13) |

(27 Oct 07)
Report from the 'Press'...
Premier Men: (Day
1)
Sydenham v LPWCC
It was the McCone and McCord show at Sydenham Park
with the Lancaster Park-Woolston opening bowlers dissecting the
Sydenham batting to capture all 10 wickets.
McCone, a left-arm swing bowler, enjoyed the favourable
conditions with the southerly behind him while McCord proved an
ideal foil coming into the wind.
Only Sydenham opener Kieran Williams stood firm
against the tide although he found a handy ally in Kane Whiteley,
with whom 53 was added for the seventh wicket after being 38 for
six. Williams batted the innings of 190 minutes, facing 133 balls.
The combined side did not have everything its own
way with Canterbury-contracted pace-bowler Amandeep Singh striking
early before Keryn Ambler and Simon Allen rode out the storm.
Their efforts were built upon by a fluent
unbeaten half century from Andrew Duncan whose 55 came from 85
balls with seven fours. It led to the visitors holding a handy
66 run advantage overall at stumps.
Sydenham 108 (Ryan McCone 6-31, Ben McCord
4-47) v LPW 174-7 (Andrew Duncan 55*, Simon Allen 39, Keryn Ambler
35)
Premier Women:
LPWCC v St Albans
Lancaster Park Woolston (LPW) put up 262 for six
batting first against St Albans.
Haidee Tiffen made St Albans pay for a dropped catch
by scoring 99 runs, with Selena Charteris hitting 40.
The pick of the St Albans bowlers was Beth McNeill,
who took three wickets. St Albans opener Janet Brehaut was the
only one to make an impact, but the team fell short by 140 runs.
LPW spin bowler Selena Charteris took three for
28.
LPW 262-6 (Haidee Tiffen 99, Selena
Charteris 40; Beth McNeill 3-62) beat St Albans 122 (Janet Brehaut
47; Selena Charteris 3-28) |

We have two young lads coming over this season
from the UK and they would like to play for LPWCC. Both are 18 years,
in fact twins, and are seeking someone to put them up for a short
time before finding a flat for themselves.
If
any one from the club could possibly help out could you ring me

It
would be much appreciated in helping to settle them in.
