The Lancaster Park Woolston Cricket Club is a result of a merger between the Lancaster Park Cricket Club and the Woolston Workingmen's Cricket Club, a section of the Woolston Club. This merger occurred in 1998 when a CCA (Canterbury Cricket Association) directive encouraged clubs to merge to reduce the number of clubs in Christchurch. LPWCC's initial season of 1998/99 saw Joint Men Club Captains, one from each of the merged clubs, stalwarts Trevor Luke (LPCC) and Ken Taylor (WWMC), with Kate Rathbun looking after the women's section. The Senior Men's team under the captaincy of John Quinn finished 3rd (2-Day Competition) and were the beaten finalists in the One Day Competition, while the women's team under the leadership of Lisa Astle finished 3rd.
In 2009 the Club reached its highest point when the Premier Men won the NZ National Club Championships held in Auckland over Easter. Captained by Andrew Ellis the team was unbeaten and became the first team from Canterbury in the competition's 15 year history to the win the tournament outright. The women's section of LPWCC has been highly successful as is reflected in the table below. There have been a number of Canterbury and NZ representatives from the women's section. 2009 saw the retirement from all forms of the game of Haidee Tiffen. Haidee was the NZ captain and leading batsmen and had been a major contributor in LPW success over the years. |
